| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 4/22/2003 Each year, the Association of Information Technology Professionals hosts a National Collegiate Conference. This year the 8th Annual Conference was hosted at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana March 27-29, 2003. The conference included a welcome reception, keynote speakers, breakout sessions, hands-on programming contests in Systems Analysis & Design, Java, VisualBasic, Frontpage, Network Design, COBOL, C++, Student Papers, Student Chapter webpages and a NEW Database contest. Once again, the Anchorage AK AITP Student Chapter did quite well, taking two second place honors. In attendance were 653 student and faculty with 85 colleges and universities represented. The overall conference attendance was 813. The Anchorage Chapter was able to send four students; Casino Corley, Galina Ivanova, Chris Lawn, and Maxim Sorokoletov. The competitions in which our students placed were: 1) The Student Web Application Contest, which was sponsored by the Institute for the Certification of Computer Professionals (ICCP) Education Foundation. There were 15 submissions of which 6 were declared finalists at the conference.
2) The Database Contest, which was sponsored by the AITP Education Foundation -- 62 teams competed.
Keynoters were J. Bruce Harreld, IBM Senior Vice President of Strategy and Dave Willmer, Regional Manager with Robert Half Technology. Last year Vice President Dick Cheney gave the Keynote speech for the conference, which was held at Kansas City DeVry University . This year's conference was sponsored by Robert Half Technology and Microsoft. Contest events sponsors included both AITP’s and ICCP’s Education Foundation, State Farm Insurance, Wal-Mart and MicroFocus.
